Je souhaitais avec cette nouvelle toile évoquer la bataille d'Angleterre. J'ai choisi de relater la 7ème victoire de l'Oberleutnant Josef "pips" Priller le 14 Juillet 1940, non loin de Douvre, sur un Hurricane du squadron 615. Il pilotait lui même un Me 109E3 aux couleurs du 6/JG51. Plus tard, au matin du 6 Juin 1944, il sera le  seul à décoller avec son subordonné, le sergent Wodarczyk, pour repousser le débarquement de Normandie. Cette scène véridique a été immortalisé dans le film "le jour le plus long", de Raoul Levy (adapté du remarquable livre de Cornelius Ryan). Contrairement à ce que l'on pourrait croire, Pips s'en sort vivant ! Il compte 101 victoires à la fin du conflit, et s'éteint en 1961 à l'age de 46 ans suite à une crise cardiaque.

I wished by this new picture recall the “Battle of England”. I chose to state the 7^th victory of Oberleutnant Josef “pips” Priller on July 14^th 1940, nearby Douvre with a Hurricane of squadron 615.  He himself piloted a Me 109E3 with the colours of 6/JG51. Four years later in the morning of 6^th June1944 he will be the only pilot to take off with his subordinate sergeant Wodarczyk to fight against the Allies Normandie landing. This real scene has been immortalised in the Raoul Levy movie “The longest day” from the remarkable book of Cornelius Ryan. Contrarily to what one could believe he was not killed ! He counts 101 victories at the end of the war and dies in 1961 aged 46 of a heart attack.
